Big trampolines have become very popular in recent years

Trampolines all look the same but...

You will expect your trampoline to last for many years as your family grows. Trampolines need to have a lot of high quality materials, finish, and a comprehensive warranty to ensure long lasting use, and this is less likely with a cheaper trampoline.

Trampoline Checkpoints

Is the frame made from heavy duty galvanised steel

Are the pads guaranteed not to absorb water

How many springs does the trampoline have and how strong are they

Is the surface of the mat non-abrasive

To be confident that you buy a durable and safe trampoline check for the following features:

Trampoline Frame: is the trampoline frame made from heavy duty galvanised steel, therefore suitable for year round use? All TP trampolines use galvanised steel, with a lifetime guarantee against rust causing failure, and are more durable than zinc powder coated steel frames used in cheaper trampolines.

Trampoline Pads: these are important as they protect the jumper from impact with the trampoline frame or springs. They are also the most vulnerable part of a trampoline in terms of resisting wind, rain, sun and frost. Lower quality pads that are not guaranteed to be water resistant will require more frequent replacement. TP trampoline pads are substantial in depth and width, cover the springs and are guaranteed not to absorb water.

Trampoline Springs: the better the spring, the better the bounce. Low cost springs used in cheaper trampolines lose their memory, especially if used by adults. A trampoline that will not spring back to its original shape is soon a disappointment and of little value.

Trampoline Mat: check that the surface of the mat is non-abrasive to ensure it does not hurt your child’s skin. TP trampoline mats are soft surfaces that provide a consistent bounce and drain easily to allow year round outdoor use.

To ensure maximum safety, it is important that you buy a trampoline that is suitable for your child’s current age and ability.

As larger trampolines are further off the ground, and have tighter springs that allow higher bouncing, they should only be used by children who have good balance and are able to control the direction and strength of their bounce.

You see a lot about weights...

Weight limits are important because they indicate the strength and durability of the trampoline. Responsible manufactures will always err on the side of caution with weight recommendations. As children develop and bounce higher, they will put more load on the springs. It is worth investing in a trampoline with a weight limit well in excess of current needs, so you can continue to enjoy it as your family grows.

What size trampoline should I buy?

The most important consideration when choosing which trampoline to buy is to make sure it is suitable for the current age and ability of the children who will use it.

Another consideration is where you will place the trampoline. Consider the amount of space in your garden and allow a clear 3ft around the outside of the trampoline so that children can land safely if they fall off.

Trampolines need to be placed on level ground. If placed on uneven ground the durability and safety of the trampoline will be compromised. If the ground the trampoline stands on is uneven by more than a few inches, consider digging a shallow ditch to make the ground level.

Safety First!

Supervise your children at all times when they are using the trampoline

Do not attempt advanced moves without qualified supervision

Only allow one person at any time on your trampoline

Invest in a safety surround for your trampoline for safety - the Big Bouncer (left) comes with its own
