We're aiming to raise £1.75 million over three years to support Save the Children's work to save children's lives and to eliminate child poverty in the UK. Helping children fulfil their potential whatever their circumstances.
We will support healthcare programmes to try to save many of the 416,000 children who die there every year. 70% of these deaths could be prevented. Families living in rural areas or those who have migrated to cities in search of work often struggle to get even very basic healthcare.
The number of children under five that die from preventable causes each year is a staggering 2.1 million. Half of all child deaths in India are a result of complications during or after birth. Save the Children is working on a number of maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition programmes to stop children dying.
Save the Children's vision is that by 2020 it will no longer be acceptable for children to be growing up in severe poverty. Last year the charity impacted the lives of 400,00 children in the UK via initiatives to improve education.
