Great for your child's development:

Riding a trike is a brilliant way to strengthen little legs and practise balancing skills for a bike later on in life. The 4-in-1 Vanilla Smart Trike takes your little one from ride along stage to beyond, as it transforms from a parent-steered ride along to a classic pedal trike that your child can use all by themselves. As your little one gets pedalling and steering, it's also a great way to get some exercise.

ELC star quality:

We love the Smart Trike Carnival because it grows with your child, from ride-on mode to independent pedalling and steering. In parent-controlled mode, the Touch Steering design makes moving and steering the Smart Trike as smooth as if you were walking along with your little one's stroller.

What you need to know:

-Suitable from 10months
-Converts from a parent-controlled ride-on to a pedal trike

My sons loves going out in his trike. I bought it last Christmas, when my son was 10 months- the recommended age, however he tried to climb out and as per other reviews there is no harness. I ended up using reins with it secured via the bottom of the handle. From age 11 months he no longer tried to climb out, I stopped using the reins after a few months although I have not removed the frame and sun canopy (unfortunately you can't remove one without the other) as even though he is now 19 months I don't think it would be secure enough for him. The other downside is it difficult to put in the car as you need to remove the frame and canopy which is difficult, I also needed the help of utube to put it together. However it is a really sturdy product and good value especially since he can use it for a few years. The only advantage of buying one of the more expensive trikes would be to have the harness.

We bought this trike for our son's 2nd birthday - he's on the small side, so we've got no worries about him out-growing it! It's such a fabulous little trike, I just wish we'd bought it earlier. It took a bit of building, and I'll admit I mis-read the instructions and made a mistake which meant having to call SmartTrike for a replacement part (which they very kindly sent out free of charge within a couple of days, so brilliant customer service, too)
Before I bought this, I saw a few reviews online that expressed some annoyance that the parent-led steering was wonky, and initially I thought the same thing - but then I watched the online assembly video and realised that there's a knack to the way you turn around the front wheel that "locks" it into place for parent-led steering, and that way you can "unlock" for when kiddie starts steering by themselves. And it's so easy to push! My son's not that heavy, admittedly, but I usually push with one hand, although on some surfaces it wobbles a little so I use both hands for those occasional times, and for going up and down pavements, just to be safe. All in all, we LOVE this trike! My only real gripe is that (as far as I can tell) you can't use the plastic restraint once the kid starts to pedal, because you need to change the position of the seat. I hope I'm wrong on that, though, - I guess l need to properly investigate it. But since I'm not convinced my boy will stay in his seat without the restraint, it looks like he's going to be stuck in parent-led mode for a while longer!
