Great for your child's development:
The Phonics Alphabet Desk is a great educational toy for encouraging your child in their first steps towards learning to read. As they progress through each game your child can have fun with words and sounds – learning the letters of the alphabet, how sounds are used in words and how to spell, as well as counting and colours. The alphabet desk uses the same teaching method, called phonics, used in schools, making it just right to prepare your child for the future.

ELC star quality:
The Phonics Alphabet Desk's eight educational games will keep your child interested and let them learn at their own pace – but it's so fun they won't even know they're learning. Getting the answers right gives a wonderful sense of achievement and you can make up even more games using the brightly coloured alphabet keys.

Bright and colourful, durable, easy to operate! Lots of different games to be played which is what I initially liked about this educational toy. Unfortunately, as mentioned by others, the letter sounds are incorrectly pronounced! This is a HUGE disappointment for me as a mother, teacher and literacy co-ordinator in our school. I asked for this as a gift for my son's birthday and trusted that educational toys from the ELC would have been researched fully.

The concept remains good and the variety of games, including the counting one, are useful.

I agree with the other reviewer who is a teacher. I too am a teacher and have been disappointed by this product. The pronunciations of many of the sounds are incorrect. Letters such as r, m and s are pronounced "ruh", "muh" and "suh". All children are now being assessed on their knowledge of phonics at the end of Year One. If you want to encourage your child to say the sounds incorrectly then purchase this product. Personally I would give this product a miss (ours was given to us). ELC should review this product and be leaders in the educational toy field and make sure their products meet with new government standards.

My son received this as a presnt and I was very disappointed with it. As a primary school teacher, some of the phonics it teaches is incorrect and was confusing my child who had been taught them the correct way.
If my son hadn't ripped it out of its box I would have returned it.
Not good if you want your child to learn phonics the correct way.

My 2 and a half year old son's Leap's Phonics Pond broke and I was looking for a replacement. This item is not as good but the former is no longer available. The tasks set by the Phonics Desk are good for children starting to learn letters and numbers but does not stretch those already able.

My son does love it however, he enjoys the success he has, the flashing lights and the music. It kept him quiet for 5 hours in the car yesterday!

I have only bought this for him because I have another child on the way - in reality, it will be more use to her.

This item is more expensive than similar things on the market.

Had the younger version of this and he still plays with this, so now got the 'older version'. He loves it!

Bought this for our three year old for Christmas and have been very impressed with it. He spends ages playing with it in its different modes which he changes himself and has a great time. We weren't sure how much of a 'fun' toy it would be but he loves it. It's well built, batteries last ages and I would recommend it.
