I initially wanted to give this game a negative comment as I have had hard time to pick up the Martians, indeed can hardly pick up any after a few big bangs and that annoyed me so much and hit it even harder! So my son and I spent time just banging the Martians real hard which he found it amused but I got really frustrated.
When my husband came home and heard my complaint he then gave it a try. Well, he managed to pick them all up without hassles and he gave them a very gentle bang. So I tried to hit the Martians gently and yes I picked them all up, so does my 2 years old son!
Believe it or not, my 2 year-old managed to pick all the Martians within 10 mins including putting the Martians gently to the side. He loves this game and always ask to play.
So the secret to handle this game is not to hit them hard but be very gentle.

I dont usually write reviews but after reading the negative review about this product i felt that i really should. we were bought this as a present for my sons third birthday and originally the item didnt work and was broken, however the ELC swapped the item for a working one without a reciept which was really good of them and checked out in the shop it worked. this is the only negative complaint i have about this game - the working one we have is brilliant, and my 3 year old son, my 84 year old nana and all the family memebers inbetween can play this game, its easy to use, simple to explain to the kids and provides lots of laughs. I am pretty sure if you cant pick up the martians then its something you're doing wrong, its dead simple and i think this is totally suitable for even 2 and up if the child can concentrate. i would re buy this for a friends child and for £6 its a bargain for a decent present. ignore the bad reviews this is exactly what it says on the box, its a good game.

Bought this for christmas for my soon to be 4 year old and really wish I hadn't bothered.

My child, and even some adult members of our family, find it impossible to pick up the Martians with the hammers leading to lots of frustration, which makes the game unenjoyable.

I bought this game for my son who is 28 months old after he played it at his cousins house. He absolutely loves this game and has worked out exactly how to catch the bobbing martians. He also uses the martians as extra people in his happyland house and has great fun lining them all up in a row. I did buy it in the half price sale which was as added bonus.

I bought this for my 2 year old with no hope she could actually get the martians out but she mastered it after about 5 mins and rather than just clobbering it she was being tactical and it can only be good for her hand eye coordination!!
Very impressed, though I did buy it in the sale and glad I did as her main phrase at the mo is "one more alien game mummy"

Broken within fifteen seconds of turning it on. The bobbles on three of the martians' heads broke off within that time after being played by a not-particularly-manic five year-old earthling.

Really, keep your money in your pocket/purse.

This game is the worst present we have ever bought for our little boy. The martians hardly ever bother to pop up unless you give the game a real thrashing with the hammers. And even when they do start to move about the only thing you can do is keep thrashing it in the hope that you will catch something. This helps to relieve the frustration that you have paid good money for something so rubbish but there is no real fun, educational or replay value for the child. Please take our advice and steer well clear. Spend your money on something more fun (a trip to the dentist perhaps!)
