Love the keys lighting up to assist learning each tune. My 3 year old loves playing abd singing along.
Some of the rhythms are a little iffy, but this is a small point.

I bought this for my twins' second birthday and they love it! They call it the music maker! It is great for them as one can play the drums while the other plays the keyboard. It is quite durable, although I have removed the microphone for the time being as my two kept dropping it on the floor and tugging on the wire and I was worried that it would break. This would not be a problem for slightly older kids (but great that you have the option to remove it for younger ones). I was impressed that it has a range of about 7 songs that it "teaches" you how to play (keys on the keyboard light up). I found this quite amusing myself. Overall an excellent toy making for hours of entertainment. The only down side is the background rhythms are quite repetitive and get annoying quite quickly, although the twins seem to love them. I would highly recommend this toy.

My two kids are 3 and 1 years old and so realistically are not going to able to learn a complex musical instrument for some years. The Key-Boom-Board is great fun and both of them love playing the keyboard, singing, banging the drums and generally just enjoy all the music it makes. The eldest is very proud of playing and singing 'twinkle twinkle little star' with the learning mode and light up keys. Brilliant! My only disappointment is that it is batteries only but they seem to last quite well.

This keyboard is fantastic.

I hit upon the idea of getting my 3 year old son Zack a keyboard for Christmas as whenever he's seen them around at groups or in other places he's always been keen to play on them and give them a try.

We didn't know if it would be something that would stick with him or not, but we figured if we could find something that was a real keyboard rather than just an entertaining toy which could engage him a little if there was any interest there, it would come through.

I looked at a couple of different options, and was immediately taken with this one purely because of the training mode. The concept is fantastic, the keyboard can light the keys to show the child (or me) which keys to press to play one of it's preset tunes. Zack got the idea straight away and comes back to do it again and again. I myself have actually found it really engaging too and have sneaked on in the evenings more than once to have a play.

I remember having a keyboard myself as a child, and found myself loosing interest due to not having anything to hold my hand and help me get some results in those early stages while I got the feel of the thing.

The sounds and samples the keyboard offers are ample for a childs needs, and the backing options are good fun. The drum part isn't hugely convincing but is a nice extra to have, and just the fact they flash different colours when they're used or the demo and backing tracks play adds a lot of attraction value for a child to the product as a whole.

The one negative point I will make is that I think the microphone (particularly the connectors) could be a little more rugged. Zack has a one year old sister, who has a habit of pulling and tugging the wire (despite us constantly trying to stop her doing so). Already I've heard some crackling from the microphone when the wire is moved - a tell-tale sign that some damage is being incurred on it. I don't blame the product massively, as it does sell itself as a 3+ product, - but none-the-less is something to be aware of. This hasn't been an issue for us though, we've just removed the microphone and only give it to Zack if he asks for it to keep his sister from tugging at it. It hasn't detracted from the appeal of the keyboard for him.

Great keyboard with learning function. Microphone good but not sure how long will last. Scratching great. Drums good. Not explored the record and playback function yet. Nice and sturdy

We bought this for our daughters christmas pressie as she loves singing and trying to play the piano and she wasn't disappointed she loves all the different features especially the drums and the fact she can record her masterpiece's and listen to it . Microphone is ok but you do really have to have your mouth touching it to hear the singing. Scratching disc is a cool modern touch . This has lots of different features to keep any budding musician entertained.

I wrongly thought this product would be mains operated, but it requires batteries - I should have read the info more thoroughly. It's quite flimsy and we can't seem to get the microphone to work consistently. My son, aged 4, loves the drums and has been playing with it - all in all an ok toy. Glad I didn't pay full price for it.

I purchased this for my nephew's 3rd birthday, he's been very happy with it, as has his 5 year old brother who has also enjoyed playing it!

Here’s a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the Key-Boom-Board - Red

  1. Abbey asked on
How quickly does this take to build? Have bought it for my son for Christmas and can't decide whether to build it in advance or with him on the day.
    1. Ruth replied on
It only took my husband about 15 mins to build. My little boy has had a field day with it and I have a very sore head.
  2. A shopper asked on
I am looking for a keyboard for my 4.5yr old son. He always jumps on them whenever we go to friends house and just loves them! He loves music and generally anything with a great beat - in his words 'It's got to be funky!' Would this be a good toy for him? He has a 1.5yr old sister who would I am sure enjoy playing with it when he grows out of it. Is there enough different beats and tunes to play? My biggest question would also be does it have a headphones socket, as this would definitely put me off buying it if not! We could go for a smaller carry along keyboard, but I wonder whether they have as much appeal. Presumably you can also use rechargeable batteries if you end up going through them quickly? Many thanks,

The Key-Boom-Board - Red is suitable from 3 years and can be used by two children at the same time.
This requires 4 x AA batteries, rechargeable's are ok and does include a headphone socket.(this can be seen when zooming in on the second image on the website.)
There are 2 animal sounds, 6 demo songs, 6 learning songs, 2 drum sounds and 4 rhythms.
A 'mixer' is also included enabling the user to add exciting beats as well as a tremlo to create funky sounds.
In addition to this, there is also the option to record a voice and the keyboard sound at the same time.
Rounding off, a MP3 docking station adds fun and a karaoke feel to the Key Boom Board, as your child can sing along to their favourite tunes giving the product longevity.
  3. A shopper asked on
I was thinking of buying this fir my 6 year old nephew, do you think he's too old/big for this?
    Thanks x
    1. Susan replied on
No I bought the older model for my other two grandchildren when they were 2&3 and they still play with it They are now 7&8.
  4. A shopper asked on
My daughter has asked for a piano for her 4th birthday, would she be too big for this?
    1. Gloria replied on
My guess would be yes. If she is coming up to four and interested in playing the piano, I would encourage her by buying her one - a reduced size keyboard, perhaps, but a real piano - or at least a keyboard. I bought this for a first birthday. It is a spectacular success, but it's a toy.
  5. A shopper asked on
how does the ipod bit work?

      Thank you for your enquiry.
Your MP3 player or phone can be connected using the headphone jack cable provided with the product. This will then play the music on your device through the key boom board.
  6. A shopper asked on
Do we HAVE to use batteries? Is there a place where we can plug it in to the mains?
    1. Alison replied on
Customer Care Team Early Learning Centre

      Thank you for your query,

The Key-Boom-Board does not run on mains power, it requires 4 x AA batteries.

      Hope this helps
